How does online tutoring work?

First, you sign up and download a video conferencing program called Zoom. It is completely free.

Next, you will receive an invite to a Zoom meeting from me by email. Click the link in the email to join the meeting.

When you join a meeting for the first time, Zoom will prompt you to open the meeting in the app or download the app. If you have already downloaded the app just open it and you will be directed to the meeting room.

You will notice that we can see each other on video just like Skype and we can hear each other through the computer audio.

During the first session, I will have all the resources on my side of the screen.  Zoom has a screen sharing feature that allows me to show my screen.  This is just like as if I were sitting right next to your child and showing a book or a worksheet to him or her.  I will have materials prepared ahead of time for us to use during the session.

At any point that your child needs to click on things on my screen, I can hand the controls over so that she can do that.  Online tutoring is extremely interactive and it allows me to pull in any resource we might need that I can find online with a few mouse clicks.  Very handy should an unexpected teaching moment arise during a session.

There is a video from Zoom that will explain what you can expect here:
